Next very interesting family roots from Poland on this genforum, with very old and Polish surname HASIAK, could we say something about roots and heritage with the surname only?, let's try... :)
1. HASIAK from Prof. Rymut's "Nazwiska Polakow, Slownik Etymologiczno-Historyczny", Krakow, 1991-2001, t. I, page 299: Polish surname HASIAK, derives from old Polish "hasac", "skakac" (to jump, to carouse) - means a person/people who like to have fun, to dance,... :), going from base surname HAS, noted in Poland from 1718.
2. HASIAK's location in all Poland, from his Polish census 1990/2002, let's note from 1990: Nazwisko-Surname Ogolna liczba-Totally Rozmieszczenie-Location/main Polish town/area: Hasiak 645 Wa:20, BB:4, By:16, Ch:17, Ci:14, Cz:1, Gd:32, Go:1, JG:39, Kl:7, Ka:27, Ki:7, Kr:10, Ks:7, Lg:23, Lu:15, Ol:6, Op:45, Po:10, Pr:19, Ra:5, Rz:13, Sz:10, Tb:133, Ta:6, Wb:14, Wr:60, Za:75, ZG:9 = there were 645 adults in Poland with this surname HASIAK, and the net could be south-eastern part of Poland, town Ta: TARNOBRZEG area, in 19th century this part of the country was under Austria-Hungary Empire, named as Galicia, just to have first touch of the country, here is the map of Poland, with the zoom + (Przybliz) and - (Oddal) there:

If you want to have wonderful trip to the past, you have in your country very interesting search source: Ellis Island immmigration records with the ship manifests, fully given!, and all you can see now, for free, thanks of money of the US government (and citizens, of course, cause all money in the country are going from them ;), so, let's try to find HASIAK there, with dear Stephen Morse's invaluable search tool: http://www.jewishgen.org/databases/eidb/ellis.html = there are 69 HASIAK's, and your challenge now would be to find yours!, I can only for today show you that few of them (as Thomas Hasiak from "Austria", list as 1st on the ship manifest with the page 527, arrvd 1900 from Hamburg, Europe, left in Poland brother Kasimir(Kazimierz) Hasiak; also Walter(Wladyslaw?) Hasiak, arrvd 1909 from Rotterdam, Europe; and few more, most of them were from "BIELANY, Austria(Poland), so we immediately checked Polish ph book white pages with the Bielany, village(2) close main town KRAKOW, but no HASIAK could be found out, but!!, checking BIELINY, gmina (community) Ulanow, same south Poland, but in the east direction, close to this main local town TARNOBRZEG, we astonishigly found two families HASIAK:
Genowefa Hasiak & family, Bieliny, Poland, ph.no: +15 8764308
Jozefa and Jozef Hasiak, Bieliny, Poland, ph.no: +15 8764176
