Hi Maggie, There is a 1930 U.S. census record for a Thomas Hasiak family living in Rural Solebury Township, Bucks County, PA. Tomasz/Thomas Hasiak was born in 1887 in Poland. he married Mary in 1908, presumably in Poland. Mary was born in 1888 in Poland. There were four children living in the household in 1930: All of the children were born in Pennsylvania. Joseph was born in 1907, Walter was born in 1912, Anthony was born in 1917 and Mary was born in 1918. According to the census record, Thomas and Mary immigrated to the U.S. in 1911 (how could that be if Joseph was born in 1907 in Pennsylvania? I’ll come back to that later). Thomas was employed as a farmer. He was still listed as an alien in 1930. Be careful when doing your research in Pennsylvania. There is another Thomas and Mary Hasiak similar in age to your great grandparents living in Oil, Vernango County, Pennsylvania. This Thomas Hasiak was born on December 4, 1888 and was employed as a butcher. Now this is where it gets interesting. There is a Philadelphia passenger record for a Tomasz “Haschak” family that arrived in Philadelphia on November 22, 1912. The family consisted of Tomasz born in 1884 in Russia/Poland, Marya born in 1889 in Russia/Poland, Joseph born in 1907 in the USA ? , Boleslaw born in 1911 in Russia/Poland and Antonina born in 1912 in Russia/Poland. The families destination was 2325 Callowhill St. in Philadelphia PA where they were going to join Tomasz’s brother-in-law Jan “Sivil”. The families nearest relative in their native land was Tomasz’s father Jan “Haschak” in Wlodzimierz, Russia/Poland. There are at least three (3) locations in Poland with that name. According to the ship’s manifest, this was not the families first passage to the U.S., which would explains how Joseph was born in the USA. It is conceivable that by 1930, both Boleslaw and Antonina may had left your great grandparents household to start their own families and Joseph still remained behind. A 1920 U.S. census record would verify this information, however, I have been unsuccessful in locating one for the family. The Bucks County government offices would be the best place to research/confirm some of this family information. You may want to start with the U.S. naturalization records for Thomas and Boleslaw at the Bucks County Prothonotary Office (assuming that Boleslaw moved to Bucks County from Philadelphia County.) http://www.buckscounty.org/government/rowOfficers/Prothonotary/Genealogical.aspx Next, you may want to try to obtain a copy of the wedding applications for those Hasiak family members who immigrated to the U.S. and married in Bucks County. I believe that those records are on file with the Bucks County Register of Wills/Orphan’s Court. http://www.buckscounty.org/government/rowOfficers/RegisterofWills/MarriageLicenses.aspx Note: In Pennsylvania, the marriage document with the most genealogy information is the marriage APPLICATION (not the marriage license). Good luck, Norbert Notify Administrator about this message?
