Fred.... To find records in Poland for Andrew/Andrzej Pyzynski you will ned to know the name of the village where he was born or lived in Poland. That information can be found in records here in the U.S.; the manifest, naturalization records and some marital records. Although not intended for genealogical research, the census records provide clues to finding other records, such as the manifest and naturalization records. The early census records of 1900, 1910 and some 1920 census records will not give you the name of the village, but will give you a clue as to the partition of Poland where they lived. From 1775 until 1918 there was no country known as Poland, Poland was partitioned in three and ruled by Russia, Germany (Prussia) and Austria (Galicia). Therefore on records prior to 1920 you will find Poles identified as being Russian, German or Austrian. The census records provide clues, but not necessarily accurate information. You may find conflicting immigration information on various census records.....the immigrants had more important things to be concerned about other than the year they arrived in the U.S. Do you know if Andrew was naturalized? The census records will indicate AL (alien) if he was not naturalized, PA if Andrew filed for naturalization, NA if naturalized. If naturalized after 1906, his naturalization records would give you the name of the ports of departure and arrival, the year of immigration, the name of the ship and the name of the village where he lived. Unlike today, when movie/theater and sport celebrities maintain their names; in the early 1900's our ancestors Americanized the names given to them in Poland. Therefore Andrzej would have become Andrew/Andy. Notify Administrator about this message?
