Searching for Tanczar in Ropcice, Poland
I have not been able to find much info on my maternal grandmother: Her name was Maria (Mary) Tanczar (on my mom's birth certificate, it is listed as Tencgar), born March 20, 1893 in Ropcice, Poland (possibly spelled Ropcyzce). She came to the U.S. with her two sisters, Harriet and Victoria, (Maria was the youngest) in December 1909 when she was 16. She left her parents and another sisster, Gladys, in Poland. I have checked Ellis Island and other possible ports, but with no luck, either for her or her sisters. They resided in Chicago, Illinois. Maria never spoke English, was never employed and did not have a socil security card. This has made it most difficult to locate anything about her or her parents.
She married Vincent Krugan (Kurgan), possibly in 1911, and he supposedly died before she married my grandfather, Joseph (Jozef) Kruczek. She was Catholic, but not sure if she went to church. Maria Kruczek died on December 26, 1941.
Obviously, I have not been able to get anywhere with my grandmother's side of the family. I would love to be able to find more info, especially of my great grandparents.
If anyone can be of some help, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.
