yes, I can understand you very well, every of our greatgrandparents deserve our best respect, honor and help in preserving their family roots and heritage, they lived and worked so hard, just to give to us as their descendents our life and best life values ; going to my work and help, here are my search steps:
I. I contacted few people living in this Pilich, finally they gave me contact to the family Panka living in this Pilich.
II. I've just contacted Mr. Wieslaw Panka from this Pilich, and he told me very openly:
His family Panka (fully spelling in Polish is Pan~ka - n with Polish grammar diacritical mark over the letter) is living in this Pilich for generations.
His father was Kazimierz Panka from this Pilich
His grandfather was Michal Panka from this Pilich
He couldn't tell for today the name of the greatgrandfather and earlier ancestors
But for today he could recall well when he was a teenager (in abt 1960') the family letters had been received by his family in Pilich from the US, sorry but these letters did not survive in Poland. The family Panka is Poland is happy that somebody is looking for family roots in this Pilich, he could help you in deeper search in Poland visiting old family Panka church and parish in Skulsk asking the family records from the 20th and 19th century, he could ask other family members about family memory, I told him also next possible search path due to my experience as owner of the RootsPoland - to search as "Collecting family names and dates with local cemetery graves" - yes, he could go to the local cemetery in Skulsk and check the family graves with names and dates of the Panka's ancestors.
III. You are very pleased to post them a letter with all you have (maybe you have these letters from Poland, and you can make xerocopies?, any photo of John Panka? etc.?, your letter might be in English, as his son Darek is speaking English and can translate all your correspondence, they are giving you their full postal address:
------------------------------------
Wieslaw Panka
Pilich 6
62-560 Skulsk
Poland
-----------------------------------
Don't hurry with this first letter, as just today they are leaving Pilich for summer vacation, and will be back in two weeks.
With the best good luck, and enjoy your weekend in US,
Tad
