Hi dear Lisak,
Maybe I can help you from Poland just to give you symbolic Christmas gift, seems I've found out the member of you family Kocanda with EI database giving you the name of the family origin in Poland:
# Fabian Kocandaj (the right would be Kocanda), immigrated as young and brave 18 years old Pole, arrived to NY port on May 15, 1912, via ship Kronpriz Wilhelm, from European port Bremen, going to U.S. to father Jan Kanty Kocanda, Chicago Il, left in Austria/Poland his aunt Agnieszka Majchrowicz, his POB - Place of Birth is given as "Pieniasz Konice", also Agnieszka's town is given as "Pieniasz Konice"...
Time to open you the mystery gate, after deep search I do suppose this "Pieniasz Konice" is Pieniazkowice, south Poland nearly located to Nowy Targ and south of old Polish capital Krakow.
For your American Family Immigration History Book please find some weblinks to be noted:
This Pieniazkowice with Polish Wikipedia:
The family ancestral province, culture, customs is Lesser Poland:
You and all your Amercian family is kindly invited to visit now your family Pieniazkowice in 2012 Poland, happy virtual tour!
I see with EI database other Kocanda's immigrated from Zaluczne (given on ship manifest as "Zahuzne"), and supposingly all this family Kocanda emigrated to ths U.S.
Finally, please note the right spelling in Polish of your family name: Kocan~da - Koca˝da - n with diacritical mark over the letter, and in this Pieniazkowice are still living after 100 years:
Danuta Majchrowicz, Pieniazkowice, Poland
Jan Majchrowicz, Pieniazkowice, Poland
Janina Majchrowicz, Pieniazkowice, Poland
Stanislaw Majchrowicz, Pieniazkowice, Poland
Tadeusz Majchrowicz, Pieniazkowice, Poland
Tad - Tadeusz
