With respect to your posting, I believe John Pole, born Shapwick in Feb 1781 is almost certainly the same John Pole (aged '60' in 1841) who lived in the parish of West Pennard, in the location of Cox Bridge and was a herdsman. Apart from the coincidence of birth date (bearing in mind the Census approximates to within 5 years, the location is similar - in the 'Levels' in the vicinity of Glastonbery - and there appears not to be a history of 'Poles' in West Pennard). Also your John seems to have disappeared from Shapwick.
I'm descended from John Pole's son, James, who migrated to Victoria.
