DelaPole 2 Petypole

I am trying to trace the roots of the Pettipool/Poole family and how it derived from the De La Pole's, in England sometime before the 1600's. Does any one have any idea of how the De La Pole changed to Petypole?
In the Pettipool/Pettypoole/Poole/Pool families, the family lore is that we came from the De La Pole clan in the 1500's in England? Our oldest ancestor was Matilda Petypole and her two sons: William and Richard Pettipool in England in the 1600's.
