Hello, all.

If I may without sounding immodest, I can suggest a little more recent work on Cardinal Pole than F. G. Lee's rather strange little book which really isn't a biography at all. The easiest way into more current work is through my new study (also not really a biography, although it may be taken for such), _Reginald Pole, prince and prophet_ (Cambridge University Press, 2000) and a collection of articles, _Cardinal Pole in European context_ (everything that wouldn't fit into the other book!) in the Variorum Series from Ashgate. (I'll have to concede, though, that for $3.75 a copy of Lee's book is much cheaper than either of mine!) Hazel Pierce has also done recent work on both his father, Richard Pole, and mother, Margaret Plantagenet.

BTW, those who have suggested that there was no connection between the de la Pole family and the cardinal's lineage are quite correct.

Hope this is some help.

Thomas F. Mayer
