Don't know if there is a connection, but I'll give it a try.
My grandmother Carina Ana Maria Leon de Gil (1897-1982) had a grandfather named Vincente Leon Pons. She was born in Jativa, Valencia, Spain. She said her grandfather was from the northern regions, was possibly Basque. It would be interesting if his family actually came from Menorca.
If you have any information on this, that would be great.
