"Jane, Jane, with no last name". That "Avera" surname may have evolved to "Avery". I've been thinking about the Va-NC bounderies from say 1600-1700, and both colonies have an Elizabeth City. Many tidewater Va colonists migrated to the Pasquotank area (Quakers I think). Was this area considered Va or NC at this time? Elizabeth City County, Va. today is Hampton. The Court records burned in all of the wars. Could your John Poole Sr have been born in Elizabeth City, NC and that area been considered Va in 1632? I don't know the timeline of the establishment of NC or Elizabeth City NC. It is closer to Johnston County. Jane could have been Native, you know, her real name might have been Anaksunamun and John said "Ok, howabout Jane?"
