John,
I believe you are correct that John is Robert's son. There are people who would not agree with us. I have scoured ship manifests available on the net from 1607-1750, and there are not a lot of Pole/Pooll/Pool/es on them.
There are people searching for the ancestors of Edward Pool of Rowan Co. NC 1720-1780(there was a John Pool associated with Edward in that area around 1760), and Basill Poole of Ann Arundell, Md. abt 1692-1770. There is much speculation as to their origin. I've not read or heard anyone explore the idea that both Basill and Edward, among others, descended from Robert.
My father told me when I was a kid that my 1st Pool immigrant came from England and married a Native. Dad wasn't much of a reader, and their was no internet back then. So I'm trying to connect Edward and Basill to Robert or debunk the theory.
I think Robert was most certainly more prolific than written history says, he probably had 10 or more kids. There seem to be more Pool/es in Tidewater Va, Upper Md, and N east NC, than the ship manifest suggest at the time. Now you know what my mission is. It is clear to me that you have obtained more info on your line than I have on mine based on your knowledge of the women and Robert's only known son.
