Your clue that Sally Poole, wife of Newman Scarlett 3rd, was born in 1805 in New York is most significant.
William & Lois Moore Pool's first six kids were recorded in Vermont, with dates ranging 1789-1802.Then they left Vermont, and spent a number of years on the road, before arriving in Cincinnati.Their youngest son, Horace Poole was born during that time on the road, say 1807-08ish, and so it seems that there is a time gap during which an 1805 baby could have been born (c1803-c1806).Horace was prominent in his father's Wm2 Pool (1766/1854) estate papers, c1855, which Clark Co Hist Soc, Springfield possesses. I think the Mary Skardon notes that I was reading last week mentioned Horace being born in NY, or having reported that in a census. Chester's pension mentions many places he lived in NY-- whether Wm & Lois & kids stayed with Chester/Bridget for a few yrs is ?
Looking at Chester Poole/Bridget Kinney's list of kids, p22 Chester Poole pension, Lois Poole b 14 Oct 1800 is there-- she is wife of Barna Scarlett, findagrave, etc. But in 1805, a son Jonathan Poole, b. 20 Jun 1805/1816, died young.A sister Phebe Poole was b. 1808,So an 1805 birth doesn't fit here...so it doesnt seem that Sally is a sister to Lois.
Deuel Poole (son of Lois Moore Pool) was born in 1795, so if he had kids, he probably didn't at age 11 (to have an 1805 daughter)-- His estate papers are also at Clark Co Hist Soc.
I put many of the Scarlett/Poole entries on findagrave into a Virtual Cemetery, with public access to help you easily add links, info, etc.I have not tried this before but it seems that this may be useful. Also was surprised to find a Chester Scarlett, see virtual cemetery list-- he may be a candidate for C. Scarlett, the letter writer as well...the clipping posted on his findagrave entry may tie his profession stated there, to that letterhead in the pension file (fold3).
I did look briefly at a bible record for Warren Poole b.c1772 (son of Sarah Warren Poole)/wife Polly Wilson of Williamstown Vermont to see if he had a daughter Sally-- he did but she 1804/1807 died young; a daughter Polly (1806/1886)was next-- but Warren's kids were born in Williamstown it says. Southern Vermont was at one time part of NY I hear so...
