I have a copy of the Clay County, Arkansas Civil War Veteran's Pension Application list. Think I can help you.

Veteran's Number: 4126
Name: Poplin, Jno
Widow's Name: Poplin, Roena A.
Birthdate is blank
Veteran's Record of Service:
Company: C
Regt.: 42
Div: NC Infantry
Served: 62-65

Under Application Approved for Widow is the date July 8, 1906
Under Vet date deceased is the date April 20, 1906

I'm betting you'll find them in the 1880 Clay County census. It is online, I think through either Genweb or Rootsweb. I'll try to get a chance to double check it.

I got to thinking that there may be other people looking for some of the names from a list that I copies with my ancestors on it. Anyway, you can request copies of the civil war service record through the state of NC. There is a form I think that you need to ask for???
Hope this helps you.
