The original posting is quite dated but if "Sherry" 11/07/04 still looks in, I have the following information about Patrick Porteus. Born in Ireland about 1789. Died in July 1881. His wife was Marjorie. DOB in Ireland unknown but died in Mariposa Township in 1881. They came to Canada in 1846. Both are buried in Salem Cemetery, Mariposa. The 1881 census makes reference to a Patrick Porteus living in the township. His ethnic origin was Irish. He was 92 at that time. Patrick was a brother of Robert Porteus, my GG grandfather who is buried in Graham's Methodist Cemetery in Manvers Township, southwest of Peterborough where I live.
