You should peruse the St. John Genealogy forum. One Deport line (Hugh,Hugh,Hugh,Henry,John,Adam,William, then Robert) assumed the St. John surname with the birth of Robert. That St. John line was based in Basing, England and is a very prominent Anglo-Norman Family. The DePorts are listed in the Domesday Book (which is the first recorded census known) and are great landholders. They also did come over 1066 with William. It is a long and storied history, you should check into the St. John Family history where you will find more on the DePorts.

Cheers,

Jerome Lafayette Saint John
