I am the daughter of Arthur Roy Porterfield, born maybe the first or second son of James and Ellen Porterfield, maybe in London or Manchester, England. When he died in 1968, we found that he may have been born around 1897. He did not fight in the first war 1914/1918 as he was in engineering necessary for the war effort. He had 3 brothers, James ( with whom he went into the motor trade) Ernest, who was killed on his motor bike in 1931/2 and Joseph who died in the 60's. Dad married my mother in 1946.Mybrother was born in 1947 and myself in 1949. We knew little of his life before marriage, he was a very private man, though years before his time in some things. The year i was born he and James (Jimmy)bwere going to emigrate to America, taking us all, but James died of cancer very suddenly. I have always wanted to trace his family, maybe i have cousins living close by in Stockport as I think joe had children. If he had we cousins do not know of each others existance!! Idon't think for one minute that you have any family connections with us. it has been fascinating to discover this web site. Porterfield is rather an unusual name around here.

Freda Curley,
