Jody,
It was a great surprise when I came across your statement pointing out the conflicting information giving John Porterfield of Trenton New Jersey as the progenator of the first family of Porterfields in America. Frank Porterfield provided a remarkable record of the Porterfields, but I believe he got this rather crucial connection wrong.

I am going to work a little on this Gordian Knot and see where it takes me. For your information, I am decended from Samuel (1726-1789), the youngest of John's 8 children. I would be pleased to learn more about your search of the Alexander family. E-mail would be best, I believe. My address is nhp1@psu.edu. I live in State College, PA (we are still here!!).

Neil
