See page 170 in the book The Porterfields by Frank Burke Porterfield. John D. Porterfield b.1912 father was William Lowrie Porterfield b.1880 m.Mary A. Michaelson. William Lowrie Porterfield was named for his uncle of the same name who was killed in the Battle of Falling Timber in 1862. The name Lowrie comes from Jane Lowrie (1795-1869) who married William Porterfield (1788-1864)- page 169.
The Lowrie name has been carried as a middle name by many Porterfields scattered now across the country down to the most recent generations. My 4 year old twin granddaughters are named Sarah Lowrie and Lily Cameron - Cameron being the surname of Jane Lowrie's mother. You can follow John's ancestory in the Porterfield Book. I am on page 171 listed as Harry Neil b.1937 which should be Neil Harry P. b. 1936. Now retired -Dean Emeritus,Penn State University.
