Well, it's true, and it isn't true. Here's the story....
Patience HALL (b ca 1800), d/o Jeremiah and Nancy HALL, married Thomas HOUSE on 22 Nov 1822 in Madison County [Marriage Book A, p 41].
Dicie HALL (b 1814), d/o Jeremiah and Nancy HALL, married Thomas J. TUCKER on 11 Apr 1833(rec 5/29/1840) in Madison County [Marriage Book A, p 141].
Patience HALL (b 1841), d/o William and Orpha (Nelms) HALL and granddau/o Jeremiah and Nancy HALL, married Hamilton Horatio PORTERFIELD on 28 Dec 1854 in Madison County [Marriage Book B, p 106]. He was KIA 1863 in Richmond, VA, and Patience remarried in 1867 to James B. BOND.
Dicy Luticia HALL (b 1850) parents unknown, married "Edmund F. PORTERFIELD" [as listed in marriage record] on 21 Dec 1871 in Madison County [Marriage Book B, p 247]. His tombstone in Shelby County, TX, listed his name as "Edward T. PORTERFIELD ."
So, your unknown source was partially correct, it just referred to the wrong generation for Patience and Dicy. And it turned out that Edmund and Edward were the same person.
