JAMES CHARLES POSGATE, 89, a long time resident of Houston, died Wednesday, November 29, 2000, following a protracted illness. The son of British parents James S. and Emily A.B. Posgate, he was born in Independence, Kansas, on July 11, 1911. He spent his childhood living in England and Tampico, Mexico. He attended Texas A&M University, and he received his engineering degree from Stanford University in 1933. He began his career with Humble Oil Company at Darst Creed Field near Luling, Texas. He retired in 1976 as Vice President for Production of Exxon Company USA. Mr. Posgate is predeceased by his two sisters Phyllis Stevens and Janie Schumacher. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Bernice Ridout Posgate, and their three children, James Jr., Laurie, and Louis. Their children all reside in Texas, along with grandchildren Emily and Phillip Plant, and Natalie Posgate. A memorial service will be conducted at St. Martin's Episcopal Church at 2 o'clock in the afternoon on Monday, December 4, 2000 with The Reverend Peter G. Thomas officiating.
