James Postlewait & Alice (Alace) Carpenter

Does anyone have any information on the marriage of these two? Alice Carpenter, daughter of Margaret Ann Gear and Stephan Decator Carpenter who were married May 25 1842. Alice was born in Bangor, Maine. Possible that both her morther and father died, and she became a ward under the guardianship of John Henry Gear (who later became Governor of Iowa). Stephan Decator Carpenter may have been killed in action at Stone River TN, 1862. 1850 census shows Stephan, Margaret, and Alice stationed in Nueces Co., Texas.
Please help.

Any information on Stephan, Margaret, and in particular Alice and Jame would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Donna
