Emigrants
data from the registers of population

This database contains information on emigration from a number * of municipalities in Friesland to countries such as the USA and Canada.
The groundwork was done by Mrs A. Galema, who conducted
extensive archive research for her dissertation. With the help of volunteers, Tresoar subsequently added further data from other municipalities.
* At this point in time the database contains information from the following municipalities:
Achtkarspelen, Barradeel, Franeker, Harlingen, Menaldumadeel, Smallingerland, Tietjerksteradeel,
Oostdongeradeel, Westdongeradeel, Het Bildt, Ferwerderadeel and Wonseradeel.

I made a review for the name Posthumus, see:

Family names became compulsory in 1811. All heads of the household had to have their chosen name registered at the town hall. This was a huge change, especially in the north and in the east of the Netherlands where many people had never used a family name.

I made a review for the name Posthumus too, see:

With regards
Hans Posthumus
