Nigel,
I am aware of only one other Peter Potten and he does not exaxtly fit into the timeframe. This other Peter (b.1848 in Heathfield) was the son of Neri Potten (1788-1876) and Mary Relph. I have no information on him other than his birth.

Lamberhurst is a difficult area because under boundary changes, the parish moved from Sussex to Kent. The parish records are now kept in the Centre for Kentish Studies in Maidstone.

If you can find Peter's marriage to ?, it may indicate from where he came originally. I have done a sweep of most East Sussex parishes up to about 1830 but my searches of Kent parishes has been limited to Hawkhurst, Goudhurst, Cranbrook, and Lamberhurst up to about 1800.

Neil
