Have you checked out the Potten website http://www.vaugrat.demon.co.uk ?

Neil Rogers-Davis gave me loads of information on the Pottens from Kent and East Sussex so he may be able to help you too. If not, there is still lots of interesting information on the origin of the name and some family trees.
