I am a descendent of Preston Pottorff(b.1811). In fact he is my Great-Great-Great-Great-Great Grandfather. My lineage goes as follows: Preston Pottorff--George Leman Pottorff--William Henry Pottorff--James Arthur Pottorff--William Elsworth Pottorff--Vivian Ann Hawkins(nee Pottorff)--Shawn Dean Hawkins--Me. Your ancestor, Elizabeth, was in fact the sister of my ancestor George. My family records do in fact match all the information you gave. Our records say that Elizabeth was born in 1841. Our records also say the following about Preston Pottorff:
"Schedule I [Clifty Furop ?(messy cursive writing may lead to some unknown words)] Dist. N.3 in County of Bartholomeu State of Indiana. Free inhabitants enumerated by Nathaniel Thornton on the 20th day of Sept. 1852 visitation #448."
I believe this is some sort of census confirming the existence of Preston, his wife Louisa and his 8 children George, Silas, Milton, Elizabeth, Louisa A.M., Allen, Nancy and Richard.
We as a family were unable to track down his ancestors even with research. I can tell you that there are many Pottorffs living in Colorado and Kansas (and even other states) that descend from James alone, descendent of George Leman. If you like, we could trade family information. I think it would be wonderful if our two long lost branches actually got in touch.
