The last name Poulson (originally spelled Poulsen in Denmark) is a very common name in Denmark (much like Smith in this country.) My g-g-grandparents (Poulsen) emigrated to U.S. from Denmark in the late 1800s. They eventually changed the spelling of the last part of the surname from -sen to -son probably to Americanize the spelling. Others have also changed the spelling of the entire name such as to Paulson.
