Hi -
I had just posted a memo to a Van Meter and a Poulson, about how those families moved around while I was trying to get them on record.
I didn't know that the Poulsons were in Delaware as early as 1701. I thought they came in around 1720. However, I first found the Van Meters on Long Island, moving to Somerset County, NJ,around the 1700 to 1720's (Were the Poulsons already in NJ?) then they (?) went to Delaware, then Frederick County, Maryland. The marriages into my family took place during this time, and I'm not sure which was where.
(I'm mostly looking for any - any - ancestors of Agnes/Anjelitje Poulson/Powelson. She was once called Agnes Van Meter Powelson). I can trace the Van Meters back two generations and into Holland.
After all was said and done, a lot of the Hedges and Van Meters (with Agnes Powelson marrying my 5 gr-grand-father) moved down to Virginia, before it became W. Virginia.
From there, I have not again seen the Powelson name, but we married into the Van Meters over three generations in three different states - Virginia, W. Virginia and two places in Kentucky.

I hope the NY - NJ locations will help you to tie someone in.

Floyd Hedges.
