Being raised in the North and having mostly German ancestors or family who moved from VA to TN to IL or OH to MO, I am not that familiar with the South immigration routes, but from what I can detect about Alabama families they were usually from Georgia, South Carolina or North Carolina. I just can't see an Irish person (if surname is O'Pouncey) settling in the South/The Bible Belt where you find Catholic churches in the main cities such as Montgomery or Atlanta and living in a small farming community with a population today of less than 2,000.
