Hello Mary Frances,

Your father was my third cousin although I never met him. Our common ancester was John B. Pouncey, born in Marlboro County SC abt 1789. John B. would have been great great grandfather to both Winton and me. Your grandfather's full name was Elam Mace Pouncey, born 8 May 1892 in Butler County, AL, the seventh born child of William Walter Pouncey and Winniford Caroline Williams. I have a picture of both Mace and his parents. Mace married Vera Caine in Butler County on 19 January 1913 and they had at least seven children. Winton was number 6. I do not have any other information on Winton including his date of birth. Mace died in a Greenville nursing home on 16 Jun 1969 and is buried in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.

Cousin Temple Pouncey and I published a Pouncey family history in 2005 which has much more information on our family, tracing our roots to Anthony Pouncey who was born in Virginia about 1700. It is fascinating to follow our family as they moved from Virginia to SC, then to GA and on to Alabama before Alabama became a state. A few copies remain available for sale if you are interested. It is a hardback edition consisting of 484 pages with many Pouncey pictures and documents. If interested, you may contact me direct at
