Anthony Wayne Pouncey, b. 1812 Twiggs Co., Ga., was farming in Alabama when he up and left for Texas in 1844. Travis County records show he was in the Austin area in 1846, witnessing a deed and serving on a jury. His first wife, Martha Lane, died in 1847. He was missed in the 1850 census. In late 1851, he was in Gonzales County, marrying Mary A. Morrow, who had come there in 1850 from Tennessee. I have a copy of a family Bible page that shows the names and birthdates of all of the children born to A.W. and Mary (not including those from his first marriage), written down by Mary's mother Elizabeth. A.W. was the subject of a colorful bio written by one of his descendants in the Gonzales County history book, although some of the information therein is contradicted by reliable sources. A.W. lived until 1895. He spent most of his Texas years in Gonzales County but was in Live Oak County in the 1870 census. If you would like more details about him and his family, please send me an e-mail to tcpouncey@hotmail.com.
