Looking through IGI I see there is a christening of an Ann Powis in Wellington, Salop in 1788 which I presume is your connection. Her parents were John Powis and Mary and there is a marriage of a John Powis and Mary Steventon on 31 July 1786 at Wellington. Could be a coincidence.
