Hello, I am also looking at some Native American connections. I also was looking at the 1871 Ontarion Census on the National Archives of Canada. I did a search for "Williams" and "Indian" and came up with 53 "Williams" listed as Indian. One of them was Powless Williams, 58, Ontarion, Brant S. or W. Tuscaroras. Some other interesting names Seneca Williams and Johnson Williams. When the census was conducted, did they transpose names in confusion? or on purpose? I suspect that this was common. I get confused when trying to sort out the Sir William Johnsons with the Williams. I heard that powless is a derivative of powell. I hope this was some help.
