Hi Sharon,

My mothers maiden name was Pownall. Her grandfather, Frederick Pownall came to Australia c 1901 with his wife Harriett Wills and 3 children. There were another 6 born after their arrival in Victoria.

l have Frederick and Harriett living in Devon up to the 1901 census. Frederick was a petty officer in the Royal Navy. However Frederick was born 1871 Neston, Cheshire. His parents were John Pownall, b 1828 Birkenhead, Cheshire and Mary Birch b 1832, Heswall Cheshire.
