The original Pownall(there could be more) landed in Bucks Co., PA. His name was George Pownall. Do you know where Calvin was born? That's the first step!! In your situation it is going to be hard, but believe me(through experience), God will lead you to know your ancestors! Think about: the area you were born, that is a good start if you don't know where your father was born.
