Thomas' and Agnes' marriage record is below, and I have her family back to 1817. She was the daughter of Peter Powrie and Ann Mitchell.
Thomas and Agnes were married at 154 Perth Road. Thomas Isted was a Private in the 90th Foot. He was a single young man of 23 who was living at the time at the Dunhope Barracks*, Dundee. He was the son of James Isted, a Railway Porter, and his wife Mary Seymour who did not live to see her son's marriage. Agnes and Thomas were both single. Agnes was a Jute Yarn Reeler and 20 years old. She lived with her parents before her marriage at 235 Overgate, Dundee. Peter Powrie was her father had been a Salmon Fisher before his death. His mother full maiden name was Ann Mitchell. She has been married previously to a Mr. Tait. Andrew Taylor, D.D. was the officiating minister at Thomas and Agnes's wedding and G. Bennett and C.. Fincharm were witnesses.
What follows is more on the Dunhope Castle and its barracks.
*Situated withing a mile of the city centre has suffered a chequered existence since its construction began in the late 13th century. The castle is a late mediaeval tower house and was the seat of the Scrygeour family, constables of Dundee. It was extended after 1580 to form a massive L-plan structure with circulatr "angle" towers; the towers were later demolished and the building was converted to a woollen mill and barracks in the 18th century. It then fell into a period of little use until n 1958, following a period of Ministry of Works occupation, the Corporation of Dundee made an abortive attempt to demolish the castle and after a period of little or no use it was eventually restored in 1985-88 to form luxury offices. Picture included. There is also an article on Powrie Castle, in same publication which was destroyed by the Scrygeours of Dundee.
Thomas' Military records are likely at the PRO in Kew. I have an order in for more records myself, so if you do not have a copy of Thomas', I will add them to the list.
