I am interested in a family known about 1700 as "Fotheringham of Purie". The persons of this description in my ancestry were in Orkney at that time, and I am unaware whether or not they had a connection to mainland Scotland.

Can you tell me anything about these Fotheringhams you mention? And do you know of any connection of them to Orkney?
