The Australian branch began with Mr. Thomas David Powrie, age 29, arrived April 1835 on the ship Medora, Port F, Fiche 8, page 1 It is the same as his brother Robert so we know they came together. Their parents Robert Powrie and Ester Deacon had gone from England to South Africa on a Naval ship Cumbria in 1820, after Robert retired from the Royal Artillery. I can't image what it must have been for a lone women with two tiny children aboard a naval vessal on such a long voyage. Other members of the family soon left for New Zealand, so we have a tree with branches all over the globe. Mary Powrie Schacht Notify Administrator about this message?
