WILLIAM DOWNING SHELTON, son of MEDLEY T. and NAOMI SHELTON, was born near Clinton, Ill., January 22, l847. Had he lived until January 22, l923, he could have claimed the ripe old age of 76.

Early in life he came to Fairfield, Iowa, with his parents and finally with them settled in Decatur County. He was united in marriage to MARY TRACY in the year, l869. Six children were born to this union. MRS. SHELTON and three of the children preceded him in death. The three living children are FLORENCE PORTER, Salt Creek, Wyo.; T. SHELTON, Walman, Wyo.; EDNA PRANG, Valentine, Nebr.; MR. SHELTON is also survived by two sisters, SADIE DORSEY, and BELLE HORNER, both of Decatur, Iowa.

MR. SHELTON was a member of the I.O.O.F. Lodge, Decatur, Iowa. He has been active in this order for over fifty years, holding practically all of the different offices. MR. SHELTON was active in public life taking part in political campaigns and holding different elective offices. MR. SHELTON was always on the moral side of every public question. He comes of good old Kentucky stock and as a pioneer in southern Iowa, has done his work and done it well.

Funeral services were conducted from the Decatur Christian Church by Rev. Henry Esch, of Cainsville, Mo., and the I.O.O.F. Lodge, Sunday, September 24, at ll:00 a.m. Interment in Decatur Cemetery.
