Dear sir,
Maybe I can add some information to your seach:
My mother is born Prause. Her grandfather was Anton Prause, born 1839 in Schoenfeld, Kreis Habelschwerdt (Silesia). This village is only a few miles away from Schoental, where your grandfather is born (I have got a map of this region).
So your Alois and our Anton (whose father was Ignaz Prause) could be either children of the same parents or at least relatives.
My mother had an aunt who lived in Schoenthal in 1945 and I myself have lived in a village quite close in 1945-46, we were expulsed from Mittelwalde (mentioned in your info) in 1946.
Members of my mother's Prause family still live in Upper Silesia, and we have been there last year.
So there are Prauses enough.
