Hello, I am Jeffrey Prindiville. The family is Irish. There is a large number of Prindivilles, and other various spellings, that came from Castleisland in county Kerry, Ireland.
The story I have been told is that the family came over to Ireland from Normandy, France with the Viking, Eric the Red.Prior to that the family was from further north, Norway, Denmark. But that is going back a long ways, and is the story that has been told in my branch of the family.
The name Prindiville, in french, means "Take the city".Prendre de ville.I am unsure of when the family started to use the name, or if the french connection is even valid. My aunt, in previous years had done alot of traveling in Europe.Everywhere she would go she would open the telephone book and look for Prindivilles. She found Prindivilles in Germany, Switzerland, Spain, Amsterdam, and I believe Italy. But on her trip to France she found no Prindivilles.
My brother and I are researching the family history.Any assistance you can offer will be appreciated.
