A biography of George D. Prentice is included in "Montana, Its Story and Biography", Vol 3, page 769.
George was born, 21 April 1877, son of Charles Mortimer and Cecelia A. (Bare) Prentice, the former born in Mystic, CT, 1846, and the latter in PA, 1847. They were married in Wisconsin and retired in San Diego, CA, in 1912. Charles M. was educated in CT and as a young man came to WI. He was an architect and builder in Chippewa Falls, WI, for a number of years. In 1884, he went to TX, moved to AR in 1887, and brought his family to Butte, MT, in 1890. He was a builder and architect in Butte & Great Falls, MT. Children: George and Lulu May.
George was about 13 when his parents moved to Butte and at age 16 he began working in a planing mill, later he ran pumps and hoists in the mines at Butte and vicinity.
On Christmas Day, 1906, George came to Great Falls, MT, and married Selma Adele Jensen, daughter of Stuard R. Jensen, who was born in Denmark, 25 Aug 1851, and came with an uncle to Wisconsin at age 12. On 29 Aug 1875, Stuard married Miss Selma Johnson. They had two children: Mrs. Selma Prentice, and Walter. H. Mr. Jensen located to a homestead north of Great Falls, MT, in 1887. (a brief biography of Stuard Jensen is included in this biography).
After his marriage, George Prentice returned to Butte but a year later located permanently to Great Falls where he was chief engineer at the Montana Brewing Company. He invented an automatic keg washing machine and collected royalites on that for many years. In 1913 he went into the automobile business, with a garage, service station, and salesrooms.
Prentice children: Elizabeth, George, Dorothy, Harold, and Jane.
