Maryville Times, (Blount Co. TN) Saturday, April 23, 1904:
"Rev. Lyman E. Prentiss, D.D., financial agent for Grant University, died at 10:30 o’clock Wednesdat at Johnson City from pneumonia. He had been sick only a short time. Dr. Prentiss was widely known at this place. And his death came as a great surprise and shock to our citizens. He was born in the state of Ohio, but came to Tennessee a number of years ago, and was pastor of the first M.E. Churches at Knoxville and Chattanooga. He then went back to Ohio where he served a number of city churches, but came south again and identified himself with the work of Grant University. He was a strong, spiritual Preacher, and was one of the best known ministers of Methodism.
His sister, Mrs. D.C. Williamson, lives a few miles from town. He was assisting in a revival at Johnson City when he was called away."
