Seeking information on the PRENTISS (or PRENTICE) family, specifically the parents of LYDIA PRENTISS(PRENTICE), wife of ABIRAM SKEEL (1774-1855). She was reportedly born 17 Oct. 1778 in Connecticut or possibly near Cherry Valley, NY; married ca. 1797, and died 8 May 1862 at Sterling, Cayuga Co., NY. She and her husband are buried at Red Creek, Wolcott, Wayne Co., NY. Some sources say that she was related to a General Prentice of the Revolutionary War and was a cousin of a George D. Prentice. Late in life, her son Harlow Skeel remembered: "My mother [Lydia Prentice Skeel], I think, was born in New York near the village of Cherry Valley. Her mother died and she lived with a blind aunt, Aunt Lucy, who married a great stirring Dutchman by the name of Dickey. They had 2 sons. They lived in Newark, Wayne County, New York. Grandfather Prentice married again, was thrown from a wagon load of stoneware causing his death."
I am seeking DOCUMENTED confirmation of the above and, hopefully, additional DOCUMENTED information on Lydia. My goal is to conclusively identify her parents and track them back, presumably to New England. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
