Hi.

I am reseaching my prentiss geneology and had hit a brick wall at Samuel Prentiss who was married to Cornelia Ruggles. They were the parents of Harley Lindsay of Reading MA married to Helen Campbell Lindsay. These two were the parents of my great grandfather Harley Lindsay Prentiss married to Elvy Perkins Low. They were the parents of Helen Lindsay Prentiss (my grandmother) married to Francis Chandler Newton.

Anyway, talking to my father, their son, about the Samuel Prentiss brick wall, he said:
You know, my mother (Helen Lindsay Prentiss) always said that the problems with the Prentiss' was that they were Hoags in Scotland and changed their name over here. I am not sure when this happened, but Cornelia Ruggles husband Samuel Prentiss was a Prentiss at least in the 1800s.

Anyone have any Hoags to Prentiss this early?
