James Hogg born in Scotland and migrated to Ireland (believe the Londonderry area. He had a son named John Hogg born in Ireland. Per handwritten note, John Hogg from Ireland to Massachusetts, married and then went to New Hampshire. Robert Hogg had two sons; Robert (1732-1795) and John Hogg (1733-1810).Robert Hogg was born 25 Feb 1732 in Londonderry Ireland and died on 23 Jan 1795 in New Boston, New Hampshire. a note indicates Robert Hogg came to Massachusetts in 1752. Robert Hogg was a patroit of the War of the Revolution and participated in the Battle at Bunker Hill. Robert Hogg was married to Margaret Gregg and had eleven children: Abner, James, Samuel, Robert, John, Mary, Betsey, Willaim, Nancy, Margaret and Sarah.
In 1804 Four of the brothers changed their name to Prentiss and one brother, Robert changed his name to Huntley. Therefore James, Samuel, John, and William changed name to Prentiss. Abner remained a Hogg.
Samuel Hogg married Lydia Clark and had 7 children; Polly, Ephraim, Theron, Margaret, Willard, Nancy and Samuel.
A note on Samuel Prentiss indicates he and family lived in Walpole N.H.. Since my line runs from John Hogg Prentiss, I do not have any further information on Samuel Prentiss. I sincerely hope this information will be of use to you..LK
