Mary Prescott married how many men in Carteret Co?
In my research I found that Mary "Polly" Prescott (born 1792, died 1860)is listed as having married three men...Suthey Witherington, date unknown; Sheperman Dixon,07 Nov 1812; and Brian F. Buck, Abt. 1820-21.Now Mary did marry Dixon first and they had a daughter, Clarissa born 1815-16.Dixon died young and Clarissa went to live with her grandparents, Mary's parents Willoughby and Mary Prescott.Clarissa grew up and married Taylor Russell19 Jan 1835 when she was 20. They had a bunch of children.Taylor died and Clarissa then married Bowen Glancy about 1855 when she was forty and brought along all her Russell children. In 1857 she gave birth to another child, Margaret Glancy, (My GGrandmother). While Clarissa was living at her grandparent's home, Mary married Brian F. Buck about 1820-21.They had a bunch of children the first of whom was born in 1821 and ranging up from there. Now, my question is this...some records show that Mary Prescott married Suthey Witherington 16 Feb 1827.How could she have done that if she were already married to Brian Buck?Unless Brian was unusually liberal.Could the Mary Prescott who Brian Buck married have been another Mary Prescott with the same birthdate as the Mary Prescott I have been talking about.Pretty coincindental.Anyone got any ideas?P.S. Clarissa's second husband Bowen Glancy married three times, all widows. How many times did people get married on average back then?
