Our Presher family [according to the story written about 1965] started with Juel Gean DePressuher living near Normandy, France to his son, John Delos Prescher [he changed his name to german spelling, since he married a German girl in Lorraine, which was occupied by Germany at that time, to his son, William Rosan Prescher whose parents were killed, when he was 12 years old and he was put in a foster home. He eventually became a cabin boy on an English ship and since he did not know how to write his name, the Captain of the ship changed the spelling to Presher. William Rosan Prescher eventually came to America. This is the history that I was given on our particular family. Hope this helps. This has not been proven through solid records as far as I know. It was the story handed down by the family. I have never heard it was a Jewish name. Thora
