Richard, I know this is a long shot, but did your grandfather definately own Hardwicke hall, or was it possible that he was just born there, as hardwick hall was used as a maternity hospital at one stage, and possible a convelascent home as well, altough i am not a Prest, my brother-in-law is and his family came from and still live in Trimdon, Co Durham, which is actually between Sedgefield and Peterlee, there is also a Hardwick manor (hotel)nearer peterlee.
