Hi. It may be that your James Prest is the father of Hugh Prest b1810 in Nottingham. Hugh Prest married Sarah and they lived in Myton, Hull where they raised 5 boys. James b1832, George b1835, Francis b1841, William b1843 and my Great-great grandfather Edward Prest b1847. The first born James has the same name as his paternal grandfather which would be traditional. Edward Prest married Emma Holland on 23.10.1871 at St Stephens in Hull and they had an unknown number of children one of which was Edward James Prest b12/11/1872 who is my great-grandfather. He was in the Kings Rifles and was shipped out to South Africa ahead of the Boer war.
